Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will install a free smoke alarm at no cost if you don't have a working one

We also offer special alarms for the deaf and hard of hearing and children with special needs to those who qualify.

Things to consider

  • You are only eligible if you live in unincorporated Hillsborough County
  • More than 3,000 lives are lost every year in home fires
  • Many of these deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms
  • The smell of smoke may not wake a sleeping person. Poisonous gases produced by fire can numb the senses and put you into a deeper sleep.
  • Working smoke alarms can give your family valuable time to escape and reduce loss of life during a home fire by 50 percent
