During the July 15, 2026, Board of County Commissioners meeting:
The Board declared July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Act 36th Anniversary Awareness Day. The law was passed to ensure people with disabilities have the same civil rights and opportunities, and to prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, schools, recreation, transportation, and all places that are open to the community.
Commissioners adopted a resolution for the issuance of a Utility Revenue Note not to exceed $650,000,000 to finance the acquisition, construction, expansion, replacement and/or equipping of various capital improvement projects for the County's utilities system, specifically the One Water Campus project located in South County. The project will improve South County’s drinking water supply and pressure, using state-of-the-art facilities to create a clean and trusted water supply.
Commissioners directed staff to work with stakeholders, including the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, to draft an amendment to the ordinance that establishes the School Zone Speed Enforcement Program, to expand enforcement to additional school zones in unincorporated Hillsborough County. The amendment would ensure safe corridors for students walking, biking, and riding to and from school.
Commissioners allocated $62,500 in funding to Meacham Ag Ed, Inc. for greenhouse upgrades to the urban farm located on East Scott Street in Tampa. These improvements are expected to increase food production capacity by approximately 25%, improve year-round growing capacity, reduce weather-related production losses, and increase the availability of locally grown produce for the surrounding community
The Board approved reallocating $62,500 of Commissioner flagged funding to the nonprofit, Madi's Movement, to assist Hillsborough County young adults aging out of foster care with opportunities for employment and economic mobility. The funding will be included in the proposed FY27 budget.
Staff presented the County Administrator’s proposed $14.1 billion budget for Fiscal Year 27.
Staff reported that some of the guiding principles include structuring a budget to prepare for possible property tax reform, prioritizing public safety, maintaining County infrastructure, equipment, and current service levels, along with identifying budget savings and investing in County employees.
The board will meet on July 29 for a budget reconciliation public hearing and will vote to adopt a final budget on Sept. 24.
