Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 10, 2026) - Residents who travel the Gunn Highway corridor near the Pasco County line will have an opportunity to review plans for a critical culvert project that will close a segment of the roadway for an extended period this fall.
Hillsborough County is hosting a Public Engagement Open House and Virtual Engagement for the culvert replacement project that will require a closure of a portion of Gunn Highway for up to 28 days.
The virtual engagement will be open until Sept. 21, 2026, on HCFL.gov/Engagement.
The in-person open house informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Sept. 15, 2026, at the Walker Middle Magnet School gymnasium at 8282 N. Mobley Rd., Odessa, FL 33556.
The project near 18830 Gunn Highway is part of the Culvert Renewal and Replacement Program and will entail removing a 5-by-10-foot box culvert and replacing it with two 53-by-83-inch elliptical reinforced concrete pipes. The current culvert is nearing the end of its lifespan and replacement is necessary to prevent potential failure and maintain roadway safety.
To complete construction, a road closure of up to 28 days will be necessary and is expected to begin on or after Oct. 12.
Drivers will be detoured to Lutz Lake Fern Road, Dale Mabry Highway, and Van Dyke Road. Drivers may choose to use the Veteran's Expressway as an alternative. However, regular tolls will apply.
Virtual Public Engagement Opportunity
