During the March 5, 2025, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting:

The Board approved a tri-party agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, Plant City, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and ZooTampa for $17.1 million in State financial assistance for road resurfacing projects.

The funding is part of the previously collected Transportation Surtax funds, and each recipient will receive their share of the appropriation directly from FDOT.

Commissioners adopted a resolution to allocate $150,510 in funding to A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay, Inc. as a contribution for the construction of two restrooms for the organization’s future activity center in Brandon. A Kid’s Place provides residential foster care to children in crisis who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

The Board approved the administrative action plan for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds and approved a 90-day extension to submit the full Action Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The County expects to receive a $709 million grant for disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, and mitigation in the “most impacted and distressed” areas resulting from disasters in 2023 and 2024. Upon approval of the Administrative Action Plan, the County will be entitled to 5%, or $35.4 million, of the funds to be utilized over a six-year period.

The Board approved $7.4 million in emergency purchases related to Hurricane Milton for the Water Resources department. The funding will be used for continued services of wastewater and compost hauling to prevent backups and spills into residential properties.

Commissioners received the monthly update on the post-hurricane regional stormwater assessment. Staff is continuing its analysis of flooding from Hurricane Milton while meeting with other community stakeholders and scheduling public engagement events to discuss potential improvements for future storm seasons.

Options include increased funding, new and upgraded pump stations, as well as capacity and flood storage improvements.
