Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 15, 2026) - With the increase in rain, Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services is seeing an increase in mosquito populations and will treat them by air on Thursday, July 16, in South Tampa.
In one of Mosquito Management Services' mosquito traps in South Tampa, which are placed throughout the county to monitor mosquito populations, it collected 18,000 mosquitoes on Tuesday. By contrast, the same trap only returned 142 mosquitoes during an inspection in June. The team identifies and weighs the mosquitoes collected in the trap to determine the amount.
Due to the significant increase in mosquito populations, there will be an aerial application of Dibrom to control adult mosquitoes between 3:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., Thursday, July 16, at the following locations:
South Tampa
- North Boundary: Gandy Boulevard
- South Boundary: Tampa Bay (body of water)
- East Boundary: Bayshore Boulevard
- West Boundary: AJ Palonis Park
The mission will be flown by a single-engine helicopter at an altitude of 300 feet and an application rate of .66 ounces per acre.
- First alternate spray date: July 17, 2026
- Second alternate spray date: July 18, 2026
