Duties and responsibilities

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

  • Prepares patients for treatment, administers prescribed medication, and provides diagnostic and treatment functions.
  • Establishes and updates patient medical and nursing care plans, as well as individual health plans for children ages 0-5.
  • Provides bedside care and accompanies physicians on patient rounds.
  • Evaluates patient's medical records and advises physicians of health care needs.
  • Monitors patient's vital signs, symptoms and therapy reactions and notifies physician.
  • Supervises health care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants and nursing students.
  • Draws blood, administers oxygen, intravenous, electrocardiograms, and lead tests inserts catheters.
  • Orders and accounts for narcotics, drugs, medication and supplies.
  • Supervises the maintenance of a clean and sanitary patient health care environment.
  • Provides information to staff committees and trains individual staff on improving patient care needs and direct care services.
  • Instructs patients and relatives on recommended home health care.
  • Coordinates the provision of home or early childhood site care, including delivery of service from available community, health and social service providers.
  • Reports outbreaks and other relevant information to appropriate regulatory health organizations.
  • Performs administrative case management, reviews reports, conducts home visits and evaluates services rendered.
  • Manages medical clinics, assists physicians, and provides ambulatory treatment.
  • Prepares and maintains patient's medical records and reports.
  • Performs physical examinations and health care screenings.
  • Provides Occupational Medical Management guidelines, reviews reports, implements services and determines reimbursements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications required

  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Registered Nurse license.
