Benefits at a glance

From health and dental plans to paid time off and tuition reimbursement, see some of the benefits employees have available to them.

Cafeteria benefit

Hillsborough County helps to cover the first $96.92 of every pay period for benefits elected by the employee, reducing the annual cost of benefits by $2,520! It’s additional income that essentially raises your pay rate by approximately $1.21 per hour.

Health plans

Whether you’re a planner and saver, or want convenience from your health plan, Hillsborough County’s customized plans — the Modern and the Traditional — will meet the needs of you and your family.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

The Modern plan automatically comes with a Health Savings Account (HSA), which you can use for medical, dental, and vision expenses. Hillsborough County makes a generous contribution into the HSA once per year.

Dental plans

Choose between two low-cost Dental HMO plans — the Standard DHMO and the Premier DHMO — where you select a dentist before visiting that dentist. A third dental option, the DPPO, allows you to see any dentist you want, any time you want.

Vision plans

Hillsborough County provides an affordable vision plan where you pay co-pays for office visits and progressive lenses. An allowance of up to $150 is given for lenses, select frames, or contact lenses.

Health care flexible spending account

You can have the money you need for health care expenses at your fingertips when participating in a Health Care Flexible Spending Account, and its tax free.

Dependent care flexible spending account

The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account allows you to set aside up to $5,000 pre-tax for child or elder care expenses. 

Life insurance

Hillsborough County provides a $20,000 Basic Life Insurance policy to you with the option to purchase additional life insurance for you and your dependents.

Short and long-term disability insurance

Being out of work due to illness, injury, or other reasons for an extended amount of time has its challenges. Hillsborough County covers the full cost for exceptional short and long-term disability.

Florida Retirement System (FRS)

Hillsborough County employees participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). You’ll choose either a Pension or Investment plan. Under the FRS, both you and Hillsborough County make required contributions.

Deferred compensation 457b

Hillsborough County provides a 1% contribution into a deferred compensation account, another retirement savings program. You can also make pre- and post-tax advantaged contributions to this account.

Tuition reimbursement

Working and going to school is no small feat, so Hillsborough County will support you with tuition reimbursement for job-related coursework. You can be reimbursed up to $2,000 annually.

Employees receive a generous offering of:

  • 11 paid holidays
  • 2 floating holidays
  • 18-28 days of Paid Time Off accrued throughout each year
  • 6 weeks of paid parental leave
  • 5 days of bereavement leave

Well4Life program

Hillsborough County enthusiastically supports the total well-being of its employees. Well4Life, the County’s employee wellness program, provides resources for your physical, emotional, social, and financial health. This voluntary program offers education, coaching, and even real money, up to $850 annually, to eligible participants.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

When you just need some extra help, the Employee Assistance Program is there for you. It provides you and your family with immediate confidential counseling, legal and financial guidance, and more.

Voluntary benefits

Choose from a variety of plans to supplement benefits provided by Hillsborough County such as universal life, hospital, critical illness, accident, and pet insurance, and many others.

Florida West Coast Credit Union is the exclusive credit union for Hillsborough County employees. Experience outstanding customer service, low interest rate loans, and high savings returns on accounts opened with Florida West Coast Credit Union.  

Transparency in coverage

The link below leads to the machine readable files that are made available in response to the federal Transparency in Coverage Rule and includes negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between health plans and healthcare providers.
