During the June 3, 2026, Board of County Commissioners meeting:

The Board presented the 2026 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award to Wilson Andersen of Jesuit High School for his achievements on and off the field. Andersen and his team made four straight trips to the State Final Four, winning state 4A championships in 2024 and this season.

In addition, Andersen graduated with honors and volunteered more than 200 hours of community service while attending Jesuit.

Honorable mentions were given to Mathew Altman of Gaither High School and Winston Pennant of Sumner High School.

Commissioners awarded construction agreements to repair or reconstruct approved applicants' storm-damaged homes as part of the County's federally funded Rebuilding for Tomorrow program, also known as the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery, Single-Family Housing Program, at a total cost of $180 million.

The County is expected to be reimbursed for the funds by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Residents can learn more about the program and apply for assistance by visiting Rebuildingfortomorrow.HCFL.gov.

A majority of commissioners voted to adopt the FY27 Solid Waste Rate Resolution that includes annual increase of $22 per unit for single-family residential customers who receive both solid waste collection and disposal services.

The fees will fund the cost of providing solid waste collection and disposal within the County's service area.

The increase is required to maintain continued solid waste services at the current levels, accommodate increases in operating costs, and fund capital projects necessary for safety.

The new rates will take effect in October.

The Board approved a draft ordinance to revise provisions relating to the senior citizen discount for the Solid Waste non-ad valorem disposal assessment.

The amendment clarifies that once the senior citizen discount has been approved, the resident does not need to reapply or qualify again, and the agreement terminates when they leave their home.

Learn more about the discount and apply.

Commissioners directed the County attorney and staff to provide the Board with a report and presentation at the June 17 meeting regarding the potential impacts on Hillsborough County’s current and future budgets as a result of the Florida Legislature's Special Session on Property Taxes.
