Eight new small business owners get their start
A new class of small businesses is launching in Hillsborough County this spring, buoyed by Hillsborough County’s Self-Employment Workshop Program (SEWP), which gives entrepreneurs the resources they need to get their start.
The SEWP is offered twice a year at no cost for Hillsborough residents ready to start their own business. This is the 12th class to go through the program since it began in 2021.
This spring’s class will open businesses serving a variety of customer niches.
- Premium dog-sitting service
- Autism-friendly, sensory hair care
- Catering service
- Mental health consultant for entrepreneurial women
- Public speaker and author
Each participant received in-depth business training and a dedicated small business consultant to help along the way.
What they learned:
- Understand the essentials of building a small business
- Analyze the industry, target market, and competition
- Prepare for challenges and key trends
- Dive into finance, marketing, and operations
- Draft a business plan with confidence
The fall SEWP class begins the first week of September, and registration will open in mid-August. If you are looking to kickstart your business, this is the program for you.
