The annual event draws hundreds of entrepreneurs seeking contracts, partnerships, and growth opportunities
Hundreds of entrepreneurs, contractors, and industry leaders gathered at The Regent for Hillsborough County's 12th annual Open Doors Forum, a signature networking event designed to help small businesses break into government contracting. The event is organized by Hillsborough County's Small Business Encouragement program as part of an Economic Development initiative. With over 40 exhibitors and more than 450 small businesses registered, County officials say it's the biggest reverse-trade show networking event in the Tampa Bay Area.
Event participants take advantage of the opportunity to build relationships, explore partnerships, and learn how to compete for public-sector work. Event organizers say it's all about helping small businesses thrive through connections.
Chris Ladouceur, the Vice President of Commercial Construction at Diaz Fritz General Contractors Group, says the event helps small businesses make connections.
"It's all about networking," said Ladouceur. "It's not necessarily what you know, it's who you know. The more people you can talk to; the more likely a small business will make connections."
Opening doors to opportunity
The Open Doors Forum has become a cornerstone in Hillsborough County's efforts to support small business growth. The event has helped thousands of entrepreneurs form partnerships and secure contracts, turning introductions into long-term business opportunities. Business owners move from table to table in a reverse trade show format, meeting directly with organizations that regularly contract goods and services.
Zachary Johnson, a sales representative at Jenkins Roofing Tampa, says the event provides businesses with a starting point for success.
"For any business thinking about attending an event like this, definitely do it," said Johnson. "It provides an opportunity to meet people and to support the community."
Connecting with key resources
In addition to networking, the event connected attendees with loan specialists and financial institutions, offering guidance on accessing capital and scaling operations. Representatives also shared information about Hillsborough County's Small Contractor Development Program, which provides training and resources to help businesses compete for contracts. County officials say events like this lift up the community as well as Hillsborough's entire economic infrastructure.
