Tips to stay cool and safe during extreme heat

  • Drink plenty of fluids - Residents can hydrate at water bottle filling stations in County parks, libraries, or government buildings across the county. Find a Hillsborough County water bottle filling station near you.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen - Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and put on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher 30 minutes prior to going out in the sun
  • Do not leave children or pets in cars - Cars can quickly heat up to dangerous temperatures, even with a window cracked open. While anyone left in a parked car is at risk, children are especially at risk of getting heat stroke or dying.
  • Don't forget to look out for your pets - Keeps these Do's and Don'ts in mind when temperatures rise
