County Auditor background info and duties

Melinda Jenzarli, the County Internal Auditor, was appointed by and reports to the Board of County Commissioners.

County Internal Auditor duties 

The County Internal Auditor is responsible for providing independent and objective assurance and advisory services to improve County operations. These services help ensure that Hillsborough County is fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities to the citizens and taxpayers.

The County Internal Auditor's Office was revised by voters in the 2010 Charter (see section 4.10) after originally being established by an addition to the Charter in 2002. 

Background information

Melinda has extensive experience in local government internal auditing, as well as accounting, tax, and external auditing, which she gained from her work in both the private sector and public accounting.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Lake Superior State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Tampa.  Additionally, Melinda holds several professional certifications: she is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Florida, a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
