Status of shelters during an emergency activation
In the event of an emergency, Hillsborough County has emergency shelters for residents and visitors.
Shelters are a last resort and should be used only if you have no other options for evacuation.
Residents should evacuate with friends or family or to a hotel/motel outside of the evacuation zone if possible. If you must evacuate to a shelter, be advised:
- Shelters are opened on an as-needed basis
- Important information about emergency shelters used during evacuations
- Shelter openings may vary with each emergency
- Never go to a shelter unless Hillsborough County officials have announced it is open
