Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2026) - Hillsborough County is offering free rabies shots and microchips for dogs and cats on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Dogs and cats can receive rabies vaccinations, microchips, tags, and registration, all at no cost. The popular annual event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - or until supplies run out - at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds, 215 Sydney Washer Rd., Dover, FL 33527.
County officials have enough supplies to administer more than 1,000 rabies vaccinations.
The event is drive-thru only. Residents and pets should remain in the vehicle. Microchips are required for the rabies vaccine unless already implanted. Residents outside Hillsborough will need to complete the rabies registration in the county where they reside.
Dogs and cats must be 3 months or older to receive the vaccine. In Hillsborough County, all dogs and cats 4 months or older are required to be up to date with their rabies vaccinations.
The Pet Resource Center (PRC), 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, FL 33619, is Hillsborough County's only open-admissions shelter. It accepts all dogs or cats regardless of age, breed, size or medical condition. The Pet Resource Center is funded in part by Hillsborough County property tax dollars. Residents can view adoptable pets at HCFL.gov/Adopt. Follow PRC on Facebook and Instagram @PRCPets for weekly featured pets and other PRC news.
