The ideal candidate for this position within the Development Services Department is a detail-oriented professional with expertise in reviewing structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical plans for compliance with applicable codes.

This individual ensures adherence to the Florida Building Code, Florida Accessibility Code, Life Safety Codes, Florida Energy Code, and floodplain regulations. They possess strong knowledge of inspection methods and procedures, as well as applicable county policies and office procedures.

The candidate is skilled in interpreting codes and regulations for builders, property owners, and other stakeholders, providing guidance to ensure construction plans meet all requirements. They demonstrate the ability to prepare clear reports, maintain accurate records, and utilize computers and related software effectively.

Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, as the role requires frequent interaction with managers, department leaders, and occasionally commissioner aides. The candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment, making quick and critical decisions with minimal supervision, while maintaining professionalism and accuracy in all aspects of plan review and stakeholder engagement.

Minimum qualifications

  • Registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer (active status) in the applicable discipline as required by the Florida Statutes Chapter 471.
  • OR Registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Architect (active status) in the State of Florida as required by the Florida Statutes Chapter 481.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
    (An applicant who holds a valid license to practice engineering in another state or territory of the United States, must meet current requirements to be licensed in the state of Florida as a professional engineer, and obtain the license within 6 months of employment.)
