The Board presented the 2025 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award in honor of Sickles High School student-athlete Jordan Yost. Yost holds two Sickles records – for most hits in a career, and most runs scored. He’s accepted a full scholarship to the University of Florida but is expected to be selected high in the upcoming Major League Baseball draft. On top of athletic achievements, Yost is a tremendous scholar, volunteer, and mentor to young players. Yost couldn’t attend the ceremony due to a prior commitment, but his coaches accepted the award on his behalf.

Honorable mentions were given to Jefferson High School student-athlete Ja’Marques Benton and Plant High School’s Cash Strayer for their achievements on and off the field.

The Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award honors a high school baseball player or team in Hillsborough County who displays outstanding athletic, scholastic, and community achievements.

The Board approved a change order to the Neighborhood Resurfacing contract.

The order will increase the contract price by $28 million for the completion of several resurfacing projects across the county. Some notable projects include Morris Bridge Road resurfacing, from the Interstate 75 ramp to Morris Bridge Park, and South Park Road from Gordon Food Service Drive to Bakers Street.

Funding is available in various projects within the approved Capital Improvement Program budget, and purchase orders will only be issued against approved budgets.

Commissioners voted to approve an emergency ordinance pertaining to the Hospital Directed Payment Program (DPP) and directed County staff to schedule a public hearing for June 30, 2025, at 9 a.m., to approve an Assessment Resolution and Assessment Roll for the Hospital Directed Payment Program for Fiscal Year 2026.

The Hospital Directed Payment Program (DPP) offers an opportunity to leverage federal dollars to increase Medicaid managed care payments to hospitals providing care to Medicaid patients.

A majority of commissioners voted to adopt an ordinance repealing the HOPE Affordable Housing Act. Future County Administrator recommended budgets will no longer include $10 million of Countywide General Fund revenues for appropriation in the HOPE Fund. These revenues will become available for other uses.

The next BOCC regular meeting is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025. You can watch the meeting live on YouTube on the Hillsborough County Meetings channel.
