During the April 2, 2025, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting:
The Board declared the month of April as Water Conservation Month and May 18-24 as Water Conservation Week in an effort to teach residents ways they can help save Florida’s water resources.
In addition to encouraging Florida-Friendly Landscaping, the County and its partners promote water conservation through educational efforts, community outreach, water use restrictions, and funding and construction of reclaimed water systems.
Commissioners declared April 3-April 6, 2025, as Women’s Final Four Championship Days. For a record fourth time, the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four returns to Tampa Bay, attracting more than 100,000 fans and generating significant economic impact to the area.
The Board approved an agreement with Florida Department of Transportation, or FDOT, for state financial assistance in the amount of $208.5 million. The agreement returns a portion of the previously collected Transportation Surtax funds and will be utilized in resurfacing roads selected by the State.
Commissioners also approved agreements with FDOT and the cities of Tampa, and Temple Terrace in the amount of $30.6 million in returned Transportation Surtax funds to be used for resurfacing projects selected by the State. Resurfacing these roads will provide a safer traveling environment for residents.
The Board voted to allocate up to $250,000 to Cuban Civic Club, Inc. as a contribution for fire sprinkler system updates and repairs to the walls and ceilings, restroom construction, and accessibility upgrades.
Commissioners directed staff to work with iHeart Media regarding a Public Service Campaign donation from iHeart for public service announcements on local radio stations pertaining to County projects and events, emergency preparedness, and other resources and programs.
A majority of the Board authorized the Chair to sign a letter to the Governor’s Office committing the County to fully and transparently participate in the State’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, process.
Additionally, commissioners approved the creation of a Hillsborough DOGE Liaison Committee to act in an advisory role to the Board and County Administrator. The committee will be comprised of five members selected by majority vote of the Board. Each prospective member will be a resident and registered voter in Hillsborough County.
Each shall also have at least one educational credential as an:
- Accountant
- Economist
- Finance professional
- Certified auditor
- IT professional
- Human Resources professional
Once voted on, the committee will meet monthly for up to one year and provide written updates, with a final report at the conclusion of its work.
