Hillsborough County, Fla. (Nov. 27, 2024) - Hillsborough County Water Resources is hosting a public meeting next week to present three initiatives designed to enhance the wastewater infrastructure in south and central Hillsborough County.

The One Water - South Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Balm Park Community Center, 14747 Balm Wimauma Rd., Wimauma, FL 33598. Residents can also visit the Hillsborough County Engagement and Education Hub at HCFL.Gov/HCENGAGE to learn more about the project and provide responses to a survey.

In addition to sharing information about the upcoming wastewater project, County staff will discuss the potential cooperative acquisition of construction and utility easements along alternative pipeline alignments with the respective property owners in attendance.

This project, a component of the Water Resources One Water Program, includes the design and construction of three major components:

One Water Campus Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWWTF): A new advanced wastewater treatment facility that will meet the region's wastewater needs through 2050 and will produce reclaimed water for beneficial use in the region. The facility will be constructed near the Southeast County Landfill on Balm-Picnic Road.

Balm Road Super Pump Station: A new high-capacity pump station that will convey flow from the existing wastewater system to the new One Water Campus Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

New pipelines: A large-diameter force main will convey wastewater from a connection point near U.S. Highway 301 to the new wastewater treatment facility. A new large-diameter reclaimed water main will transfer reclaimed water from the new wastewater facility to the County's reclaimed water service area. A new force main along Balm Riverview Road will transfer wastewater from a connection point near Big Bend Road to the Balm Road Super Pump Station.

The estimated $671 million project is funded through the Water Resources Capital Improvement Program, which was approved by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. Throughout the design and construction of the project, the County will be proactive in engaging the community about pipeline routes and planned construction activities that may temporarily impact motorists, property and business owners, residents, and tenants.

The timeline of the project is to start construction in 2025 and complete the project in 2028.
