Hillsborough County, Fla. (Nov. 22, 2024) - Hillsborough County Water Resources is issuing a precautionary boil water notice for customers in the Hillsborough County Water Resources Department (HCWRD) Northwest drinking water system near the intersection of West Hillsborough Avenue and West Longboat Boulevard. Customers in the area currently do not have water service, though it is anticipated to be restored by 8 p.m. today, at which point it is advised to boil water.

The boundary for the precautionary boil water notice is limited to HCWRD Northwest customers in the Longboat and Little River Areas. An estimated 427 connections are impacted by the precautionary boil water notice.

Due to the County's water distribution system pressure falling below the required regulatory level because of a water main break, the Department of Health in Hillsborough County requires a precautionary boil water notice be issued.

This notice means customers are advised, as a precautionary measure, to boil all tap water used for cooking, drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. A full rolling boil for one minute is sufficient; cool before using. Allow the water to run until it is clear before washing clothes. Discard any ice from automatic ice makers. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

While there is no indication of contamination at this time, customers and businesses are advised to boil water as a precautionary measure until a rescission notice is issued. This notice has been issued out of an abundance of caution. Notices are rescinded after tests confirm the water meets water quality standards. Testing can generally take 48 hours, but the time can vary depending on the testing required.

Residents and businesses will be notified of the rescission of the precautionary boil water notice in the same method that it was issued once all required testing has been completed.
