Commissioners recognize Pet Resources and Parks & Recreation staff for achievements
During the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners Feb. 28 Quarterly Awards Ceremony, the Florida City and County Management Association (FCCMA) honored the Board and its County managers with the International City/County Management Association's (ICMA) Recognition Award, celebrating the County's operations under the Commission-Manager form of government. FCCMA representative Addie Javed, vice president of EPIC Engineering/Group, presented the award to Hillsborough County Chief Human Services Administrator Carl Harness.
A council-manager from local government was created to help enhance administrative oversight and provide elected officials with a high-level of professional expertise to guide, support, and provide options through the decision- and policy-making process. In 2009, a Harris Poll found that only 5% of citizens could describe the specific role of local government leadership in shaping their communities. In 2015, FCCMA took a leadership role in an effort to raise awareness about the value of professional administrators in local government.
Other awards
Other recognitions presented during the Quarterly Awards Ceremony included:
- A commendation recognizing Chelsea Waldek from Pet Resources for her work in helping to build the volunteer program at the Pet Resource Center
- The Positive Coaching Alliance's 2024 Local Double-Goal Coach Award to Dave Docobo from Parks & Recreation for his decades of service in the County's recreation programs
