During the June 4, 2025, Board of County Commissioners meeting:

The Board declared May 2025 as Asian / Pacific American Heritage Month. These communities contribute to the county’s vibrant diversity, greatly expanding the region’s prosperity, and enriching residents’ lives every day. Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander Americans have made valuable influences in all areas of life, including government, business, arts and sciences, medicine, education, and law enforcement.

Commissioners approved a modification to the interlocal agreement with the City of Tampa for a two-year extension to allow the City and County to negotiate mutually agreeable terms regarding water and wastewater service boundaries and service fees.

The Board directed County staff to investigate funding opportunities to purchase the Palm River water and wastewater service area from the City of Tampa and to look into program improvement opportunities for service in that area.

Commissioners directed the County Attorney’s office to draft amendments to the Hillsborough County Trespass Towing, Immobilization and Rates Ordinance. The changes would be made to comply with new State laws that include accepting new methods of payment such as credit cards, enforcement on predatory towing companies, and providing clear rules and regulations to business owners. Staff will also look into strengthening code ordinances to deter citizens from abusing the complaint process.

The Board received the annual report from Feeding Tampa Bay. The organization’s CEO told commissioners that Feeding Tampa Bay serves 1 million residents in a 10-county service area and that 13.2 percent of Hillsborough County families live in poverty.

Feeding Tampa Bay expects to exceed 100 million meals provided to the community this year, which is more than ever before.

The organization has opened 40 school pantries and is working with more than 100 community partners to continue providing services.

Feeding Tampa Bay also provides medical services, educational, and workforce programs to help residents prosper.

The next BOCC regular meeting is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025. You can watch the meeting live on YouTube on the Hillsborough County Meetings channel.
