During the Sept. 16, 2026, BOCC meeting:
The Board declared October 2026, as Manufacturing Month. The county is home to many manufacturing businesses, some of which are world leaders in their respective fields.
The Bay Area Manufacturers Association works to advance Tampa Bay manufacturers through workforce development, networking, education, advocacy, and innovation.
Commissioners declared Sept. 15- Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month. Hillsborough County is home to a vibrant Hispanic community, and the rich Hispanic influence is evident in all aspects of American life and culture, including the arts, sciences, business, academia, the U.S. Armed Forces, athletics, and government.
Commissioners adopted a resolution to add to the Community Investment Tax Phase IV list of approved projects.
The projects include: Fletcher District transportation improvements Sheriff's Infrastructure maintenance, and Sheriff's IT and communications equipment.
The Board approved an interlocal agreement with the University of South Florida, for administering, documenting, and disbursing up to $24 million in current Community Investment Tax funds for mobility, transportation, public safety, and infrastructure improvements associated with USF's Fletcher District development.
Commissioners approved the submission of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s (HCSO) Red Light Camera and School Zone Speed Zone Camera program annual reports.
HCSO reported that from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, Hillsborough County issued a total of 22,097 Notices of Violation related to red light camera enforcement.
The total revenue collected from paid violations amounted to $2.18 million. The money collected will go to the Florida Department of Revenue and to support HCSO operations.
During that same time period, Hillsborough County’s school zone camera enforcement program issued a total of 154,262 notices of violation and collected $10.3 million.
That money will be distributed to public safety initiatives, the Florida Department of Revenue, Florida Department of Law Enforcement training, the Hillsborough County School District, a crossing guard program, and the camera vendor.
A majority of commissioners voted for staff to finalize a public- private partnership with ZooTampa for facility improvements and expansion.
The zoo has asked for $75 million over 15 years to a fund a new South American habitat and make updates to existing exhibits.
ZooTampa will match the funding 1 for 1.
Staff will hold a public hearing and vote on funding for the partnership on Oct. 7.
A majority of the Board voted to approve an interlocal agreement with the Tampa Sports Authority, designating TSA as the County's representative under the previously approved Development and Funding Agreement for the new Tampa Bay Rays stadium.
As part of the agreement, TSA will supervise and review design documents, construction materials, schedules, and budgets.
