Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team looking for players who will compete in national league

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is hosting open tryouts for its 2026 squad that will compete in the USA Wheelchair Football League this season.

Tryouts will be Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lesley "Les" Miller, Jr. All People's Community Park & Life Center, 6105 E. Sligh Ave., Tampa, FL 33617.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team plays in the USA Wheelchair Football League. The league is the first of its kind for adults with physical disabilities looking to play America's favorite sport. The league will hold four tournaments across the country this year, in Chicago, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Dallas.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is part of the Adaptive Sports division of Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation.

Player requirements to try out for the 2026 team:

  • Be at least 18 years or older as of Aug. 1, 2026
  • Have a permanent physical disability which consistently reduces the function of the lower limbs.
  • Have an elite performance sport wheelchair. If not, the league can assist in obtaining a league-approved wheelchair.
  • Be able to compete in all USA Wheelchair Football League competitions. Travel expenses for competitions are covered by the team.
  • Participate in at least one practice a week between June 24-Nov. 1. Practices are Tuesdays and Fridays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
