Commissioners honor Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for its commitment and service to Hillsborough County.
During its May 6 meeting, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., honoring the organization's efforts and dedication to the community. Two of its alumnae chapters, Tampa Alumnae and Tampa Metropolitan Alumnae, along with the two collegiate chapters, Kappa Iota at the University of South Florida and Tau Iota at the University of Tampa, are instrumental in providing community service and support to residents.
In honor of the sorority's hard work and accomplishments, the Board declared May 6, 2026, as The Twentieth Annual Delta Day. Audrey Sullivan Moore, Chair of the Social Action Committee, Tampa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, accepted the special recognition. After accepting the proclamation, Moore thanked the Board and said the sorority has stood at the intersection of civic engagement, advocacy, and social action for more than a century.
"We receive this proclamation annually, but we do not take it for granted," she said. "We would like to make sure that the County Commissioners know that we appreciate you for all of your support."
The Board also presented the Ellsworth G. Simmons Good Government Award to Sheriff Chad Chronister for his 34-year service with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
