Nonprofit recognized for unwavering commitment to serving veterans in need and their families.
During its Feb. 4 meeting, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented a commendation to Hillsborough County Veterans Helping Veterans Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is dedicated to advocating for the people in need and under-represented members of the veteran community. Founder Mike O'Dell accepted the recognition on behalf of the organization.
Established more than 10 years ago, Hillsborough County Veterans Helping Veterans has been instrumental in providing timely, temporary, and emergency assistance to veterans when no other resources are available, while also working to bridge the gap with federal, state, and County veteran programs. In addition to raising critical funding through an annual golf tournament and city, county, and corporate grants, the organization assisted 179 veterans and their families and expended $95,205 in direct aid in 2025, marking a record year of service and impact.
After thanking the Board for the recognition, O'Dell said the organization will always be dedicated to helping veterans.
"We are very busy with what we do to help those in need," he said. "It seems that our goal keeps growing and growing and growing, and so is the need for those that need our assistance."
