Commissioners also honor Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office for promoting efficiency and customer service excellence throughout the region.
During the Aug. 6 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the Board presented a proclamation declaring August as Black Business Month. LaKendria Robinson, president of the Orenda Collective, accepted the recognition.
Black-owned businesses are key contributors to the economy of the United States, the State of Florida, and Hillsborough County. Approximately 10% of all U.S. businesses and 30% of all minority-owned U.S. businesses are Black-owned and serve numerous industries, including construction, defense, security, engineering, financial services, health care, hospitality, information technology, and professional services. Black Business Month supports and celebrates the contributions of Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs who provide a significant number of goods and services to the economy and jobs for residents.
After accepting the recognition, Robinson thanked the Board and said that Black Business Month is a moment to recognize the value of Black entrepreneurs as innovators, job creators, and economic drivers.
"From storefronts to startups, food trucks to finance firms, Black businesses are doing the work," she said.
The Board also presented a commendation to the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office for being the 2025 recipient of the Governor's Sterling Award for Performance Excellence.
