Residents can fill up to 10 sandbags to prepare for future storms

Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 29, 2025) - Hillsborough County will open five self-serve sandbag sites on Saturday, Aug. 2, for residents who want to be prepared for future flooding.

The County will provide sand, empty bags, and a limited number of shovels at all five sites for residents to fill a maximum of 10 sandbags. Pre-filled sandbags will not be provided; residents will fill their own sandbags. Residents must show ID verifying they live in the County; a driver's license or utility bill will serve as proper identification.

Hillsborough County typically offers sandbags when a forecast predicts a tropical storm or hurricane. Saturday's self-serve event will supplement the County's normal pre-storm sandbag operations by allowing County residents the opportunity to be proactive in their hurricane preparations during a time when there is no imminent threat of a storm.

These sites will be open for residents to fill sandbags from the provided sand from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The sites were chosen due to their proximity to communities that were significantly impacted by last year's hurricane-related flooding events.
