During the July 16, 2025, Board of County Commissioners meeting:

The Board declared July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Act 35th Anniversary Awareness Day.

The legislation was passed to ensure people with disabilities have the same civil rights and opportunities as those who don’t, by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and fostering full participation in community life.

Commissioners approved a Housing Finance Authority bond issuance not to exceed $60 million for the construction of a moderate-, middle-, and low-income multifamily rental housing development known as Robles Park. The 220-unit complex will be located near the intersection of East Lake Avenue and North Avon Avenue in Tampa.

No County funds will be used.

A majority of the Board voted to approve the artist's rendering for artwork at the roundabout at Durant Road, Little Road, and Dover Road. The artwork will consist of a bronze sculpture of the Roman goddess Ceres. The $95,000 cost has been budgeted within the approved Capital Improvement Program Budget’s Public Art Program.

The Board authorized County staff to negotiate with MMI Development, LLC for a 13.15-acre easement in Progress Village. The easement is for stormwater and floodplain management and improvements. Staff will bring back a detailed agreement for the Board to consider at a future meeting.

Commissioners approved the Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery Action Plan. Earlier this year, the County received notification from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), of an allocation of $709 million for disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, and mitigation resulting from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

At least 70% of the funds must be used in support of low- to moderate-income households.

HUD has 45 days to approve the action plan, then the County will begin the implementation phase for use of the funds.

The County Administrator delivered the proposed $12.08 billion budget for fiscal year 2026.

The budget would include historic investments in transportation and public safety while maintaining other County infrastructure and services.

Further details will be discussed at a July 30 budget reconciliation public hearing, and two additional public hearings will be held in September before the Board’s final vote on September 18..

A majority of commissioners voted to approve revisions to Board policy regarding nonprofit funding guidelines. The requested revisions enhance transparency and accountability for the County's general fund nonprofit awards and modify the process to determine award amounts.

The revisions encourage nonprofits to become less reliant on government funding while allowing the County to demonstrate good use of taxpayer funds.

The next BOCC regular meeting is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025. You can watch the meeting live on YouTube on the Hillsborough County Meetings channel
