Commissioners recognize State Attorney's Office and Commission on Human Trafficking for their dedication to protecting the vulnerable

During its Jan. 21 meeting, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners declared January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Hillsborough County. State Attorney Suzy Lopez from the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit accepted the proclamation.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, Florida ranks third in the nation for the number of tip calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

After thanking the Board for the recognition, Lopez said the State Attorney's Office is always dedicated to combatting human trafficking and providing safe havens for victims.

"It is our job and responsibility…to hold offenders accountable and to support survivors as we work with our community partners to eradicate human trafficking in Hillsborough County and throughout the United States," she said.

The Board also presented a proclamation declaring January 21, 2026, as Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc./Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Founders' Day Celebration, honoring the hard work and accomplishments of the local sorority and fraternity.
