Through hands-on experiences with Water Resource and Public Works, students explore how the County keeps the community running
The Future Career Academy is bridging the gap between Hillsborough County students and career opportunities in their own backyard. By creating connections between Hillsborough County Public Schools, local businesses, and community partners, the program introduces students to in-demand jobs that offer long-term career growth and sustainable employment.
As part of this initiative, Hillsborough Water Resources and Public Works teams provided students with a hands-on experience showcasing careers in infrastructure and utility services. Students toured facilities, operated training simulators for heavy machinery, and engaged with advanced tools like the CCTV pipe inspection camera. They also had the chance to explore large equipment, including excavators and loaders, and participate in interactive demonstrations such as fire hydrant operation and water service installations.
Since its inception in 2015, the Future Career Academy has been dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the workforce successfully. A signature program of Workforce Development Partners Corporation, the academy ensures that graduating seniors have access to living-wage, entry-level jobs that pave the way for stable, fulfilling careers.
By providing hands-on experiences and direct connections to industry professionals, the Future Career Academy is shaping the next generation of skilled workers in Hillsborough County.
