During the Feb. 5, 2025, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting: 

The Board presented a commendation to the recipients of the County’s 2024 Minority and Small Business Enterprises Awards, which recognize certified minority/woman-owned and registered small businesses for their outstanding success in providing goods and services to the County in the areas of construction, contractual services, and professional consulting services. 

Commissioners declared Feb. 7, 2025, as Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women’s heart health, encourage prevention, and inspire women to prioritize their cardiovascular well-being. According to the CDC, more than 60 million women in the United States are living with some form of heart disease. 

 

The Board approved a financing plan for a Housing Finance Authority bond issuance not to exceed $200 million to fund low interest mortgage loans to income- eligible, first-time homebuyers. No County funds will be used.  

The Board also approved a Housing Finance Authority bond issuance not to exceed $16 million for the construction of a 77-unit multi-family rental housing development located on Town Center Boulevard in Brandon. 

Commissioners adopted an amendment to the 2025 Hillsborough County State Legislative Program requesting state funding for emergency resources. 

The Board is requesting $4 million for Hillsborough County Community Emergency Response Center Development, $4 million for buildings and emergency shelter generators, $1 million for the County’s Public Safety Operations Complex emergency generator, along with funding for drainage pond improvements, and other major road and bridge projects. 

Commissioners approved a budget amendment to appropriate $81.7 million within the BOCC - FEMA Advance Hurricane Milton - Disaster Events Fund, as an advance payment for Hurricane Milton debris removal costs. 

It is anticipated that eligible debris removal costs incurred from Oct. 14, 2024, through Feb. 10, 2025, will be reimbursed by FEMA at a rate of 100%. After the initial 120-day period, FEMA and the State of Florida are anticipated to reimburse eligible debris removal and emergency protective measures costs at a rate of 87.5%.
