Residents can take storm, construction debris to two 24-hour collection sites or prepare debris for curbside collection

Hurricanes Helene and Milton brought destructive rain and winds to Hillsborough County, leaving many residents with excess waste in need of clearing. Two options to get rid of the debris are to haul it to a collection site or prepare it for curbside pickup. Learn how to do both below.

Note: Not all collection sites accept both tree debris and construction and demolition debris. Please make sure the collection site you are visiting accepts the type of debris you want to dispose of.

Take your debris to 24-hour collection sites

Hillsborough County is offering two sites for residents to dispose of storm debris 24 hours a day.

  • Hillsborough Heights Solid Waste Facility: 6209 County Road 579, Seffner, FL 33584 (temporary entrance on Taylor Road)
  • Hillsborough County Resource Recovery Facility: 350 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, FL 33619

Both sites accept storm-related yard debris and construction and demolition debris, such as furniture, drywall, carpet, and fencing.

Note: Neither Hillsborough Heights nor Resource Recovery debris management sites accept household hazardous waste, batteries, electronics, paint, or regular household garbage.

Take your debris to regular collections sites

Residents also have the option to drop off tree debris and construction and demolition debris at the collection sites below.

  • Northwest County Solid Waste Facility: 8001 W. Linebaugh Ave., Tampa, FL 33625
  • South County Solid Waste Facility: 13000 U.S. 41, Gibsonton, FL 33534
  • Southeast County Landfill Debris Site- 15960 County Road 672, Lithia, FL 33547

All three sites accept residential yard waste, wood disposal, and a variety of household items, including couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, washers, dryers, tires, and microwaves. The centers also accept batteries, electronics, and paint.

Extended hours: These facilities are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.

Additional Drop-Off Sites

The collection sites below also accept a variety of household items, including couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, washers, dryers, tires, and microwaves. These centers also accept batteries, electronics, and paint; however, they do not accept yard waste.

  • Alderman's Ford Solid Waste Facility, 9402 County Road 39, Plant City, FL 33567
  • Wimauma Solid Waste Facility, 16180 W. Lake Dr., Wimauma, FL 33598

Note: Alderman's Ford Solid Waste Facility and Wimauma Solid Waste Facility do not accept yard waste and wood disposal.

Extended hours: These facilities are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.

Don't forget your photo ID

Residents must present a photo ID showing the residential address of the property owner.

Please note that as of Oct. 16, all solid waste sites are for Hillsborough County solid waste residential customers only. Commercial businesses will resume paying normal fees to utilize Solid Waste facilities.

Prepare your debris for curbside pickup

Hillsborough County has already started removing storm debris from communities and has hired additional debris contractors to help residents recover from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. County staff and contracted debris haulers are collecting yard waste and tree debris in addition to construction and demolition debris.

Residents should place leaves and small twigs in containers or bagged for collection as part of regular weekly residential curbside yard waste pickup. The storm debris contractors will target large piles of tree debris, while your regular weekly yard waste hauler will target yard trash that meets the normal yard waste setout requirements.

Residents should place debris curbside without blocking the roadway, mailboxes, or storm drains.

To ensure smooth collection, materials should be separated into three categories:

  • Yard waste
  • Damaged household appliances
  • Construction and demolition debris (e.g. furniture, drywall, carpet, and fencing)

Bagged waste and household hazardous waste, such as paint or car batteries, will not be accepted as part of this storm-related pickup from rights of way.
