If you are using a cellphone and lose service during an emergency, many manufactures and service providers now offer ways for you to reach first responders even without a cellular connection. This function is only available on certain cellphone models. Find out if your model has it and how to access the function, before you lose service.

An important reminder: If cell service goes down, you may need to restart your device to access the network when service returns. If you think service is restored, try restarting your device. 

If you are in an emergency like a hurricane, you may also be able to use these emergency functions to contact your family to let them know that you are safe when the threat passes, contact non-emergency service for assistance, and begin on the path to recovery.

Make sure to have a plan. Residents and visitors are encouraged to register for HCFL Alert, Hillsborough County’s official public notification system for emergency and urgent alerts. To receive messages by email, phone, and text, go to HCFL.gov/HCFLAlert. For the latest emergency-related information visit HCFL.gov/StaySafe. Residents without digital access are encouraged to call (833) HC STORM or (833) 427-8676, the County's storm information and helpline.
