Hurricane Milton Update No. 5

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 7, 2024) - All Hillsborough County offices and facilities will close Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9, for regular operations to allow staff to focus on the emergency response to Hurricane Milton. Solid Waste services will continue.

The closure includes all County libraries, parks, preserves, and recreation centers. All County public meetings have also been postponed.

All libraries in Evacuation Zone A will close Monday at 2:30 p.m., including Town N' Country Regional Library, Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library and Ruskin Branch Library.

Community Collection Centers Extend Hours to Drop Off Yard Waste, Furniture, and Appliances

No Photo ID Required at Any Facility Accepting Debris

Three Hillsborough County Community Collection Center sites are offering extended hours Monday and Tuesday. The three locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The locations are:

All three locations accept residential yard waste and wood disposal. Each location also accepts a variety of household items, including furniture, couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, washers, dryers, tires, and microwaves. Additionally, the centers accept batteries, electronics, and paint.

The Alderman's Ford Solid Waste Facility, 9402 County Road 39, Plant City, FL 33567, and the Wimauma Solid Waste Facility, 16180 W. Lake Dr., Wimauma, FL 33598, continue to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Tuesday, Oct. 8. These two locations only accept a variety of household items, including furniture, couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, washers, dryers, tires, and microwaves. Additionally, the centers accept batteries, electronics, and paint. They do not accept yard waste and wood disposal.

In addition, Hillsborough County's Resource Recovery Facility, 350 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619, remains open 24 hours a day until further notice. The Resource Recovery Facility accepts yard waste, construction and demolition debris, furniture, emptied appliances and other household items at no charge. It doesn't accept household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, etc.) or regular household garbage.

Hillsborough County Solid Waste to Collect Regular Trash and Recycling on Tuesday, Oct. 8

Hillsborough County Solid Waste will collect regular roll cart curbside collection for household waste and recycling on Tuesday, Oct. 8. This is for customers who are scheduled to have these items collected on Tuesday, Oct. 8. For additional information, visit HCFL.gov/SolidWaste.

Pet Resource Center

Due to the high population of animals in the shelter and the potential impacts of Hurricane Milton, Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center is limiting animal intake to urgent cases only. Residents are asked to keep stray animals or leave them so they can get back home.

Sandbags

Hillsborough County's sandbag locations continue be open Monday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at these locations:

  • Edward Medard Conservation Park, 6140 Turkey Creek Rd., Plant City, FL 33567
  • E.G. Simmons Conservation Park, 2401 19th Ave. NW, Ruskin, FL 33570
  • Ed Radice Sports Complex, 14720 Ed Radice Dr., Tampa, FL 33626
  • Larry Sanders Sports Complex, 5855 S. 78th St., Tampa, FL 33619

Hillsborough County residents are eligible for a maximum of 10 sandbags per vehicle. Residents must show ID verifying they live in the county; a driver's license or utility bill will serve as proper identification. These sites are self-serve and will remain open, weather permitting.
