Hurricane Helene Update No. 22
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2024) - Hillsborough County on Monday will begin collecting storm debris from County neighborhoods most heavily affected by Hurricane Helene.
Residents in the County's collection areas impacted by flooding should place debris curbside without blocking the roadway or storm drains. To ensure smooth collection, materials should be separated into three categories: yard waste, damaged household appliances, and construction and demolition debris to include furniture, drywall, carpet and fencing. Bagged waste and household hazardous waste, such as paint or car batteries, will not be accepted as part of this storm-related pickup.
Contracted waste haulers and County crews will make collection runs throughout the affected areas on multiple days, starting Monday, Sept. 30. Residents should put debris by the curb by Oct. 7. The areas impacted by flooding that will have the special debris pickups can be found on this map.
Storms often result in large amounts of debris, ranging from yard waste like fallen tree limbs to household materials like portions of damaged roofs, fences, and drywall, or flood-damaged furniture. Residents not on the map can haul larger amounts of storm debris to the County's five Community Collection Centers, which are open with extended hours to accommodate post-storm cleanup, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 6.

All five locations accept a variety of household items, including furniture, couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, washer, dryers, tires, and microwaves. Additionally, the centers accept batteries, electronics, and paint.
The Northwest County and South County Solid Waste Facilities are the only Community Collection Center sites that accept residential yard waste and wood disposal.
Residential property owners who were impacted by flooding and are not on the map and need assistance with large amounts of storm debris are asked to contact the Solid Waste Management Department at (813) 272-5680. The information will be routed to the Public Works Department, which will follow up within 72 hours. All requests for assistance will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
