Commissioners recognized Lutz Softball for winning the 8 and Under Division at the 2024 Babe Ruth League World Series.

The hard work and dedication reflect the strong commitment of the team, coaches, and parents.

The nonprofit youth sports organization enables girls to be engaged and active in fast-pitch softball, teaches world-class sportsmanship, and ensures all players are equipped to be the best they can be, on and off the field.

Commissioners approved a lease agreement with the nonprofit organization Redlands Christian Migrant Association, Inc. A majority of the Board voted to approve the lease with four five-year renewals.

Since 1981, the organization has used the County-owned premises as a child care and early education facility for migrant farmworkers and rural, low-income families within Hillsborough County.

The Board approved letters of agreement with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) for participation in the Low-Income Pool, Graduate Medical Education, and related intergovernmental transfer programs.

This enables the County to send payments to AHCA to leverage millions in federal match dollars, which allows hospitals and other providers to provide additional care to the most vulnerable populations in the County.

Commissioners conducted a public hearing to approve the Special Assessment Resolution and Assessment Roll, which will allow the County to implement a non-ad valorem special assessment for the purpose of benefiting properties through enhanced Medicaid payments for local services.

The special assessment will only be implemented on properties owned or leased by private hospitals.

In addition, the Board approved letters of agreement with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) for participation in the Directed Payment Program (DPP), which provides supplemental payments from the federal government to eligible hospitals that provide services to Medicaid managed care recipients.

Commissioners voted to modify the approved list of projects for Phase Four of the Community Investment Tax.

The changes include adding five transportation and one public safety project.

The proposed funding will go toward:

  • The bridge and guardrail program
  • Bridge improvements
  • Intersection improvements
  • The Safe Routes to School Program
  • Sidewalk repairs
  • The Sligh Avenue/Anderson Road Fire Station

If the FY 25 Recommended Budget is adopted on Sept. 19, 2024, all six projects would be funded in the FY 25 - FY 29 Capital Improvement Program.

The next BOCC regular meeting is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. You can watch the meeting live on YouTube on the Hillsborough County Meetings channel.
