Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 29, 2024) - Hillsborough County Water Resources reminds residents that one-day-a-week watering restrictions in unincorporated Hillsborough County continue through the end of the year.

The Southwest Florida Management District Governing Board voted on Aug. 27 to extend the one-day-a-week watering restriction until Dec. 31 due to the efforts to refill the regional reservoir. The lawn watering restriction includes Hillsborough County.

While the districtwide rainfall for August was above average through Aug. 21, there's still a 12-month rainfall deficit. In addition, Tampa Bay Water's 15.5-billion-gallon C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir is still approximately 7.5 billion gallons below its capacity, according to the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The restriction includes all lawn and landscape irrigation use in Hillsborough County from public supply, ponds, lakes, streams, and well water. These restrictions supersede the water use restrictions under normal year-round water conservation measures. The watering restrictions do not apply to residents who have reclaimed water for their lawn and landscape. Reclaimed water for irrigation can be used any day of the week, but it is prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

All properties in unincorporated Hillsborough County follow year-round watering days and hours. It's important to know your lawn watering days and hours to avoid getting a fine. Go to  HCFL.gov/WaterRestrictions to learn more.
