Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 29, 2024) - Bring a pet home this Labor Day weekend! The Labor of Love adoption event at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is the perfect opportunity to adopt a cat or dog in need.

All fees will be waived from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, FL 33619. Adopt a dog or cat and receive a free goodie bag filled with a leash, treats, litter scoop, dog waste bags, and coupons for food, pet items, grooming, and more (while supplies last).

Shelters across the country have been housing record-breaking numbers of animals in recent years. That trend is reflected at the Pet Resource Center, which is currently at more than 140 percent capacity for dogs; some have been at the shelter more than 100 days. Additionally, the area is in the middle of kitten season; the shelter is at more than 400 percent of capacity for cats.

Those unable to adopt a pet at this time can consider becoming a foster volunteer through the shelter's robust foster program.

The Pet Resource Center is the only open-admissions shelter in Hillsborough County, meaning the shelter accepts all dogs and cats regardless of breed, size, or medical condition. The shelter is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Photos and information of dogs and cats available for adoption are also available through PRC's online kennel.
