Hillsborough County contributed $500,000 to purchase the printer
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 21, 2024) - The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa is looking to technology to help produce more affordable housing in Hillsborough County. This week, the nonprofit will demonstrate how a 3D printer will allow it to build exterior walls quickly and economically. The group will hold a demonstration of its 3D printing machine at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at 2605 N. 43rd St., Tampa, FL 33605. The printer, purchased with a $500,000 contribution from Hillsborough County, will be a key component of the Corporation to Develop Communities' plans to build affordable homes in Hillsborough County.
The 3D printer will at first be used exclusively for creating exterior walls out of concrete, but its scope of work may eventually be expanded to other home components. CDC of Tampa is in the permitting stage for its first home with 3D-printed walls and plans to build more in the near future.
