Hillsborough County, Fla. (June 18, 2024) - Hillsborough County is hosting an open house on Tuesday, June 18, to engage the Progress Village community about improvements to the stormwater drainage system in that region.
Today's open house will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Emanuel P. Johnson Recreation Center, 5855 S. 78th St., Tampa, FL 33619. Additionally, a public engagement on Hillsborough County's Education & Engagement Hub is open for residents to review the project and leave comments and suggestions through July 1.
The project is designed to reduce chronic flooding problems and improve overall water quality in the Progress Village area. Cost is estimated at $15.7 million, with completion expected in summer of 2025.
Planned improvements include:
- Installation of a new stormwater drain under Ash Avenue and South 83rd Street
- Replacement of certain drainage inlets and outfalls south of Progress Boulevard
- Connection to a water quality treatment pond south of Endive Avenue and north of Lamb Elementary School
- Pavement resurfacing around drainage pipe crossings
Some of the work will temporarily impact traffic flow or require lane closures.
