A sport for everyone
Known for its simple rules and social atmosphere, pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. The sport has exploded in popularity across the United States, attracting players ranging from children and young adults to older Americans looking to stay active.
Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation has embraced that growth by expanding opportunities for residents to play, learn, and compete. The County offers dedicated pickleball courts, shared-use courts, lessons, and tournaments throughout the year.
While competition is a key part of the game, many players are drawn to pickleball because of the sense of community it creates. Whether residents are meeting neighbors for a casual match, joining a league, or participating in a tournament, pickleball provides opportunities to stay active while building meaningful connections. County officials say accessibility is one of the sport's greatest strengths.
Getting involved
Hillsborough County offers both outdoor and indoor pickleball courts across 30 locations for athletes at every skill level, as well as free lessons for residents eager to learn the sport. The County also hosts 12 tournaments throughout the year for players looking to show off their skills. Check out the first-ever Meet & Greet Skills Challenge in December, followed by the 2026 Big Dill Classic. Prizes and medals are awarded to winners at all tournaments.
