Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 30, 2025) - Lace up your hiking boots and celebrate the start of the 10th annual Hiking Spree with a fun-filled day at Lettuce Lake Park on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Lettuce Lake Park, 6920 E. Fletcher Ave., Tampa, FL 33637, will host the kickoff celebration for the 2025-2026 Hiking Spree from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include guided hikes, nature talks and workshops, nature-based crafts, food trucks, exclusive merchandise and Hiking Spree materials, and information from outdoor clubs and environmental groups. The event is free, but there is a cash entrance fee of $2 per vehicle at Lettuce Lake Park.
The Hiking Spree draws thousands of participants each year to exercise, explore the outdoors, and experience nature through the numerous parks and preserves in Hillsborough County. This year's Hiking Spree trail list includes 23 parks and preserves throughout the county. Complete at least eight to earn a limited-edition patch, medallion for a walking stick, or pet bandana. One of the hikes can be at a location of the participant's choice that is not on the list.
The Hiking Spree runs through March 31, 2026. Learn more and register at HCFL.gov/HikingSpree. There is no cost to register, but some parks have a small entrance fee.
The environmentally diverse sites are spread throughout the county and range from neighborhood parks to large preserves with multiple habitats. The trails are designed to offer something for residents of any age or ability, with hikes rated easy, moderate, or strenuous. Lengths range from several miles to less than a mile, and a number of the trails are perfect for wheelchair users or those with accessibility needs.
Dogs are allowed on most trails and residents are encouraged to bring their leashed dogs on the hikes.
The Hiking Spree is timed to take advantage of the cooler, drier weather and to coincide with prime bird-watching season. Participants are encouraged to post photos from their hikes using the hashtag #TakeAHikeHC.
