County hosting virtual engagement through Tuesday, Sept. 30, to collect public's feedback

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 26, 2025) - The County is collecting input on updates to the community's wellhead and surface water resource protections.

Hillsborough County's Public Utilities Administration is responsible for protecting the County's drinking water. This requirement is met partly through the County's Land Use Ordinances. Since 1992, the County has had rules and regulations in place to meet these requirements, and has determined it is time to update these regulations. The County is proposing an amendment to the Wellhead and Surface Water Resource Protections.

The updates will result in changes to the existing Wellhead Resource Protection Area and Surface Water Resource Protection Area maps, as well as corresponding changes to and clarification of the associated Development Code chapter.

These maps are published in the Hillsborough County Comprehensive Plan's Future Land Use Map Series. Included in the public engagement are the proposed new maps recommended to be adopted into the Hillsborough County Comprehensive Plan Adopted Maps.

The County is seeking input from the public on these proposed updates.

Public Engagement Opportunity

The County will conduct a virtual engagement using the Hillsborough County Engagement & Education Hub to collect feedback from the public. The comment period for this project is open until Tuesday, Sept. 30. Visit HCFL.gov/HCEngage to participate.

Residents without digital access to the virtual public engagement are encouraged to call (813) 272-5900, the County's main information line. Hillsborough County customers seeking assistance with water services and billing can contact Water Resources at (813) 307-1000.
