Adult Day Services will host events that are open to the public and designed to assist and educate clients and caregivers
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 19, 2025) - Thousands of seniors call Hillsborough County home. While some are independent and active, other seniors might need extra care.
Hillsborough County Adult Day Services offers the resources to assist. During the week of Sept. 21 - 27, Hillsborough County Adult Day Services celebrates National Adult Day Services Week with numerous programs to educate and raise awareness.
At the four Hillsborough County Adult Day Services Centers, there will be activities to recognize staff and clients, and programs designed to uplift and assist both clients and their caregivers. These events are open to the public. Residents who aren't clients with Hillsborough County Adult Day Services can attend and participate. No prior registration is required.
Alzheimer's Education, Sept. 22
- All four Hillsborough County Adult Day Services Centers will host an Alzheimer's Education session from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 22. Attendees will learn about Alzheimer's with educational workshops for families, participate in memory game activities, visit the Brain Bus at Phyllis Busansky Specialized Alzheimer's Center, and partake in memory screenings at Wimauma Adult Day Center.
Open House, Sept. 22
- The public is invited to attend an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the Phyllis Busansky Specialized Alzheimer's Center, 4102 W. Spruce St., Tampa, FL 33607. Guests can tour the center and learn more about the programs and activities offered to clients and caregivers, such as painting classes, cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, and music appreciation.
Open House, Sept. 26
- The public is invited to attend an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Bloomingdale Adult Day Care Center, 3940 Canoga Park Dr., Brandon, FL 33511. Guests can tour the center and learn more about the programs and activities offered to clients and caregivers, such as painting classes, cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, and music appreciation.
Fall Prevention Education, Sept. 26
- All four Hillsborough County Adult Day Services Centers will host a Fall Prevention Education session from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 26. Attendees will experience a safety seminar led by a medical professional, followed by the opportunity to participate in a balance screening and "Safe Strides" obstacle course.
Hillsborough County Adult Day Services Centers allow caregivers to receive respite or continue employment while their loved ones enjoy a supervised and socially stimulating setting. The centers offer mental, social, and physical activities for people who have frailties, physical or cognitive impairments, or chronic health conditions. Hillsborough County Aging Services operates four Adult Day Services Centers. Their services help families avoid prematurely placing their loved ones in long-term care facilities.
Hillsborough County Adult Day Services Centers are for adults age 60+. Prior to enrollment, potential clients are assessed to ensure they are appropriate for Adult Day Care and do not require services outside the scope of the interdisciplinary team.
There are no income restrictions to attend Adult Day Care. Services are made possible through private pay or a combination of state and federal revenue grants that may require copayment.
The centers' interdisciplinary teams of professionals (including nurses, case managers, CNAs, recreational aides, and supervisors) engage clients in activities such as nutrition and wellness education sessions, monthly vital checks, therapeutic exercise groups, sensory awareness activities, crocheting, arts and crafts, reality orientation and reminiscing groups, and social games such as bingo and dominos.
Caregiver support services are included within Adult Day Care Center initiatives. These supportive services include monthly caregiver support groups, an annual health fair, an annual caregivers' workshop, fall-prevention programs, ongoing Alzheimer's disease trainings, and referrals to community agencies like Alzheimer's Association and USF Memory Disorder Clinic.
