Remembrance commemorates 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War

Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 4, 2025) - Fifty years later, America's seasoned military members have an important legacy to share.

Hillsborough County Consumer & Veterans Services, the Vietnam Veterans of America/Chapter 787, and the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County invite the community to the annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans & War Dogs Remembrance event at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum, 3602 U.S. Hwy. 301 N. Tampa, FL 33619.

The event takes place on National Vietnam War Veterans Day in recognition of the sacrifice of military families and Veterans of the Vietnam era and the 50th year commemoration of the end of that conflict in 1975.

The Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans & War Dogs Remembrance seeks to renew camaraderie among attendees and a grateful community. The event is for all ages and will include:

  • Salutes to the 50-year legacy of Vietnam Veterans and canines who served in war.
  • Tributes to local Vietnam Veteran inductees to the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.
  • Commemorative lapel pinning for all Veterans of the Vietnam War era and their surviving spouses.
  • Color guard, rifle salute, and playing of taps.
  • On-site resources to assist Veterans of all eras with VA claims.
  • Authentic Southeast Asian cuisine and entertainment.

The Vietnam War Memorial at Hillsborough County's Veterans Memorial Park features a special war dog memorial and a pair of famous U.S. Army helicopters. The American Bell UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra represent the Vietnam era in one of the region's most prolific showcases. Park hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Events and parking are free.
