New splash pad will bring fun and relief during warm weather

Progress Village has a new way to beat the heat (once it is hot again) and make a splash.

This week, Hillsborough County proudly unveiled a vibrant new addition to the Emanuel P. Johnson Recreation Center, a state-of-the-art splash pad that will bring joy and cool respite to the community.

The almost 1,600-square-foot splash pad, a $1 million investment in the neighborhood, has 14 separate water features, including spraying fountains and playful jets, making it the perfect spot for families to cool off during Florida's warmer months. The updates also include new restrooms, shaded areas, and artificial turf, which makes a safe environment for residents of all ages.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the splash pad was held Monday, Dec. 9, and brought together community leaders, residents, and children eager to try out the exciting water features.

Beyond the splash pad, the Emanuel P. Johnson Recreation Center continues to serve as a hub of activity in the community. Its amenities include a basketball court, playground, fitness room, e-sports equipment, and game rooms. The center also hosts popular summer and after-school recreation programs.
