Whether you're a seasoned trailblazer or a casual stroller, the Hiking Spree has something for everyone

Hillsborough County residents, it's time to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails! After a one-month delay caused by the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the County's beloved Hiking Spree is back, kicking off on Dec. 1, 2024, and running through April 30, 2025.

Now in its ninth year, the Hiking Spree has become a much-anticipated tradition for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. The delay allowed time for parks and preserves to recover from flooding and downed trees, and the trails are now ready for your next adventure.

Starting Dec. 1, participants can register at HCFL.gov/HikingSpree and choose from 22 trails across 21 parks and preserves.

The goal? Complete at least eight hikes during the spree to earn an "I Completed The 2024-2025 Hiking Spree" sticker and a special reward:

  • A limited-edition patch
  • A medallion for a walking stick
  • A pet bandana for your four-legged hiking buddy

One of the hikes can even be at a location of your choice outside the official list.
Whether you're a seasoned trailblazer or a casual stroller, the Hiking Spree has something for everyone. Trails are rated easy, moderate, or strenuous and range from less than a mile to several miles in length.

Many trails are wheelchair-accessible, ensuring that everyone has a chance to enjoy the great outdoors.
The Hiking Spree isn't just about exercise, it's about exploring Hillsborough County's incredible natural diversity. From neighborhood parks to sprawling preserves filled with unique habitats, you'll get a firsthand look at the county's stunning wildlife and landscapes. In addition, the Hiking Spree's timing aligns with prime bird-watching season, so don't forget your binoculars.

And you don't have to hike alone. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails, which makes it a perfect activity for the whole family. Capture your Hiking Spree journey and share photos with the hashtag #TakeAHikeHC to join the Hiking Spree community online.

Grab a trail list, water bottle, and a sense of adventure. The Hillsborough County Hiking Spree is your passport to fun, fitness, and fresh air this winter. Emerge, explore, and hike!
