Caregivers can find support and resources at Hillsborough County Adult Day Care Centers
Whether you're caring for a parent, spouse, sibling, or friend with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive impairment, the journey often feels overwhelming and isolating. The role of caring for a loved one often falls to a family member. According to the National Council on Aging, 53 million family caregivers provide unpaid care. That has an economic value totaling more than $470 billion.
November is National Family Caregiver's Month, a month designated to celebrate and honor caregivers, recognize the role they play, raise awareness about caregiving, and educate communities.
Caregiving is different for everyone, but one thing is certain: Caregivers often neglect themselves to put the need of their loved one before their own. Whether it's meeting friends for lunch, a hair appointment, or getting to an important medical appointment, the caregiver usually comes last.
Caregivers can tap into support and supplemental resources offered by Adult Day Services, operated by Hillsborough County Aging Services. The County has four Adult Day Care centers in different areas, and each hosts a monthly in-person support group.
