Hillsborough County, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2024) - Tobacco Road in northern Hillsborough County will be resurfaced in a corridor improvement project funded by the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Program.
The project extends more than 1.5 miles along Tobacco Road from Hutchison Road to Van Dyke Road.
The project will include the following improvements.
- Reconstruct the existing asphalt pavement and widen Tobacco Road from Hutchison Road to north of Happy Trails Lane
- Rehabilitate the existing asphalt pavement along Hutchison Road (west and east of Tobacco Road) and along Tobacco Road from north of Happy Trails Lane to Van Dyke Road
- Implementation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, including sidewalk and pedestrian curb ramp construction at Tobacco Road's intersections with Hutchison Road and Turtle Ridge Drive
- Implementation of multimodal accommodations with pavement markings for sharrows from Hutchison Road to north of Happy Trails Lane and buffered bicycle lanes from north of Happy Trails Lane to Van Dyke Road
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025 and is expected to be complete by early 2026. All associated work is expected to be conducted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but nighttime work is possible. Portions of the project will include full-depth pavement reclamation, which will require road closures during that portion of the project.
The resurfacing and widening of Tobacco Road will require removal of some trees. Residents can learn more about the project and provide feedback at the Hillsborough County Engagement Hub.
Public comment for the Tobacco Road Resurfacing Project will be accepted through Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.
