Help may be available to replace personal property lost due to storms
The Federal Emergency Management Agency may be able to help uninsured or underinsured residents who lost personal property during Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and Debby.
There are eligibility conditions: Items must have been owned by household occupants and were being used prior to the storms and damaged during the events. The items include standard household appliances, such as a refrigerator and washing machine, essential clothing, basic home furnishings, tools needed for work and school, and necessities for people with disabilities.
The agency stresses that it does not provide assistance for furnishings or appliances provided by a landlord, and that items used by guests and relatives who are not members of the pre-disaster household are not eligible for assistance. In addition, FEMA may not pay to repair or replace a storm-damage item if you own a similar item that works.
Homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply at DisasterAssistance.gov or by using the FEMA App. You may also apply by phone at 800-621-3362. If you choose to apply by phone, please understand there may be lengthy wait times.
